Premier Job Mokgoro reaffirms government position in the business community

Government to enhance an enabling environment for businesses to thrive - Premier Mokgoro

North West Premier, Prof Job Mokgoro has reaffirmed government position to continue to support the business community in the province for business to thrive and grow the economy. Premier Mokgoro was addressing local businesses at Mmabatho Convention Centre to receive firsthand information on their challenges and experiences.

“Economic growth and development is depended on an enabling environment that business people find themselves in. We need to work together by creating the state and private partnerships to create economic opportunities. We appreciate the role that business play in economic development and growth.

As government we need to enhance an enabling environment for business by leveling the playing field and continue to support businesses through transparent, equitable and fair procurement processes” said Professor Mokgoro.

The meeting was attended mostly by business from different areas of the province and were given enough time to meet and greet the Premier while engaging him on their challenges and the state of business in the province. The meeting was part of engaging all sectors in the province since taking over office in June.

The Premier took more than 40 questions and comments. Amongst other things was government procurements challenges, tenders, cleanliness of the capital city and challenges relating to foreign nationals businesses.

Professor Mokgoro emphasized the need for government to communicate with business and the rest of the society on an ongoing basis in the province.

“The great concern I have picked up is almost like government does not hear the society. Our business people raised many questions around equity relating to supply chain management in government where opportunities turn to be skewed and how we are not effectively communicating in responding to their issues.

We must continue to give feedback on the work we are elected and employed to do in government and also allow citizens in different sectors to tell us how we are doing in delivering our promises and what should be done,” he said.
