Premier Mokgoro commits to unblock impasses – aims for improved services in Dr RSM

The implementation of the Taung Dam maintenance project by the department of Water and Sanitation which had reached an impasse with Batlhaping Ba-Ga Phuduhucwane Traditional Council, will soon be resolved as the Premier of the North West Province, Prof Tebogo Job Mokgoro has committed to ensuring that relevant authorities are brought on board so that issues raised by the Council can be justly addressed.

Premier Mokgoro made this commitment today in Taung, where he met the Batlhaping Ba-Ga Phuduhucwane Traditional Council led by Kgosi Tshepo Mankuroane, during a meeting that dealt with amongst others, bulk water supply challenges, mining rights and cross border issues.

Premier Mokgoro who also addressed the community of Taung at the Batlhaping Ba-Ga Phuduhucwane Chief’s Court, assured the community that the maintenance of the Taung Dam which is implemented in phases and was nearing completion before the impasse, will enable sufficient capacity for additional water to reach Greater Taung’s 126 villages and Naledi Local Municipality in Vryburg, which is also currently experiencing water shortage.

Premier Mokgoro yesterday met with the Batlhaping Ba-Ga Mothibi Traditional Council led by Kgosi Ponatshego Mothibi, this in his effort to address the service delivery concerns raised by the community of Shaleng village which is situated 80km outside Taung.

In his address to the traditional leadership and the community, Mokgoro committed the provincial government to ensuring that new development projects are implemented in this area, including resuscitating those that have stalled.

To this end, MEC Gaoage Molapisi who is responsible for Public Works and Roads, assured the community of Shaleng that road D5116 from Sekhing to Shaleng will be on the department’s priority list and will be budgeted for construction in phases from the 2021/22 financial year.

“This road has not been a provincial road. Now that we have recently proclaimed it, necessary procedures will be followed for the road to be gazetted as one of the provincial roads, before we could record it in the provincial government’s roads list”, said Molapisi to an applauding crowd.

On the delivery of houses to the community of Shaleng, MEC Motlalepula Rosho of Local Government and Human Settlement told the meeting that her department will during the current financial year, ensure that the 50 RDP houses which have been vandalised as they were not occupied for a long period, will be fixed for occupancy by those that have applied and are on the beneficiaries’ list.

“We will also build new 100 houses, meaning we will deliver a total of 150 houses for residents of Shaleng by the end of the current financial year”, MEC Rosho said.

On the request for a new school to be built, the department of Education and Sport Development presented a proposal for a new combined school to be built, instead of a Secondary school as requested by the community of Shaleng, the proposal of which the community is expected to ponder and finalise for implementation by the department during the current financial year.

The meeting also afforded Greater Taung Local Municipality the opportunity to brief the community about the infrastructure projects currently underway, which include installation of the high mast lights, implementation of the water project and an update regarding the community’s request for the village’s internal road to be paved.

Premier Mokgoro who is scheduled to also meet stakeholders at Vryburg and Ganyesa on Thursday and Friday respectively, has set aside this whole week to engaging the traditional leadership, communities and local councilors in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality, this in his attempt to deliberate on service delivery challenges.
