Finance Department improved budgets and expenditure controls

The Premier of Mpumalanga, Mr David Mabuza commended the work done by the provincial government in improving financial management and control systems in the past years.

Delivering the last State of the Province Address of the current term (2009 – 2014) of administration, the Hon Premier, Mr Mabuza said the Provincial Treasury has “provided targeted support to struggling departments and municipalities to ensure that all government institutions improve financial management systems and progressively achieve better audit outcomes”.

“We have improved our financial and supply chain management processes to prevent the unnecessary delays and wastage that ultimately impact negatively on the very communities we aim to serve, said Premier Mabuza.

He said the province has also put systems in place to ensure that small businesses are paid within 30 days.

“Where this has not happened, we have followed up and acted against the relevant departments,” Premier Mabuza said.

The Department of Finance remains focused on policy interventions to ensure that the Province has strong internal financial systems and controls that will yield improved transparency and accountability for public resources.
