Premier Chupu Mathabatha dedicates 67 Minutes of Mandela Day at Mahwelereng Township

The Premier of Limpopo, Mr. Chupu Stanley Mathabatha visited Bambanani Old Age Home in Mogalakwena Municipality on the 18 July 2015. The visit was a dedication of 67 minutes to help those in need and celebrate the iconic leader Nelson Mandela.

Premier Mathabatha was joined by MEC for Transport, Safety, Security and Liaison Ms Mapula Mokaba-Phukwana, MEC for Agriculture Ms Joyce Matshoge, Executive Mayor of Waterberg Ms Rosina Mogotlane, Mayor of Mogalakwena Mr. Parks Sebatjane and Acting Director-General Dr Phuti Pheme.

At Bamanani Old Age Home, the Premier and his entourage cleaned and planted vegetables. The entourage proceeded to Nontshimudi Higher Primary School where Premier Mathabatha attended at a young age. Former teachers and classmates were happy to see Premier Mathabatha. He started by fixing leaking toilets pipes and continued to clean the school yard.

The activities were concluded with a formal programme and entertainment from learners from Nomalema Lower and Nontshimudi Higher Primary Schools. Community members, former classmates, current teachers and former teachers of the schools gathered to get a message of the day from Premier Mathabatha.

“Everything in life is possible. The word impossible only exists in the dictionary of fools. Pain is temporary but success is permanent”, said Premier Mathabatha. He shared his history and past experiences encountered at both schools. He encouraged learners to take education seriously and be disciplined. He warned learners to stay away from nyaope, drugs and alcohol because they destroy their future. The Premier said children must respect their parents because mothers are never wrong. 

The Premier asked both Principals to assist in identifying needy learners so that government can assist them. At the same time he also asked to get bright learners so that they can be assisted with bursaries to further their studies at tertiary level. He said this will be done in an effort to plough back to the community.

The objective of Mandela Day is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good.

Mandela Day was held under the theme: “Make everyday a Mandela Day; donate 67 minutes of your time, help those in need”.

eanwhile, Premier took the opportunity, on behalf of Provincial Government to apologise to the people of Mogalakwena for what transpired in the past. “We have vowed upon ourselves as the Provincial Government that Never, never, never again shall it happen that Mogalakwena be given to councillors who made the communities suffer” said Premier.
