Premier Bushy Maape sends condolences to Dennis Ramphomane family

Premier of the North West, Kaobitsa Bushy Maape, passes his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and comrades of struggle veteran Dennis “Ayatollah” Ramphomane. Comrade Dennis as he was affectionately known passed away after a long illness. He belonged to a cohort of patriotic youths who after the 1976 student uprisings left the country and joined the African National Congress and its armed wing Umkhonto we Sizwe.

A few years after the June16 uprisings his community was forcefully removed from their land in Koster near Rustenburg and relocated to Makgokagwane village in Ramatlabama some twenty kilometers North of the provincial capital, Mahikeng. This includes the villages of Tsetse and Putfontein (Six Hundred) which were identified as a “Black spot” by the apartheid government. It is these events that would later solidify his fortitude in the struggle for the liberation of South Africa.

After his military training, Comrade Dennis infiltrated the country on a number of occasions to set up MK networks. His unit, which amongst others comprised of MK heroes like Barney Molokoane, is famously known for the Battles of Witkleigat and Derdepoort.

Premier Maape maintains the contribution of Comrade Dennis in the fight for liberation must inspire the people of the North West to be proud of their history and participation in the liberation struggle. He insists part of writing a new story about the North West encapsulates preserving the heritage and history of the province by paying homage to unsung heroes like Comrade Dennis.
