Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has guest edited the December edition of the Big Issue, currently on sale now.
This month's magazine is tourism themed, and Premier Winde has selected a number of guest writers from across the tourism industry in the Western Cape as contributors. Stories focus on the importance of tourism as a job creator in the province, highlight what some of the province's tourism destinations are doing to keep their customers safe, and spotlights some of the province's tourism attractions from food to adventure, from Langa through to the Garden Route.
Premier Winde said: "When the Big Issue approached me to edit a tourism themed magazine as part of their guest-edited series, I jumped at the opportunity. Tourism is a major job creator in this province and supporting business at this time will make a significant impact in the lives of the thousands of people this industry employs."
"The Big Issue is an incredible initiative- providing both earning and learning opportunities for their vendors and which aligns with our priorities of jobs, safety and dignity and wellbeing. I encourage everyone to go out and buy their copy of the Big Issue this month and support these hard-working micro-entrepreneurs. Each copy of the magazine sold, helps someone support themselves and their family."
Premier Winde said: "As we head into this holiday and tourism season, I appeal to everyone to be safe, to stick to the golden rules and avoid the 3Cs-close contact, confined spaces and crowded places. This will enable us to protect the vulnerable, and support jobs and our economy at the same time."
