Premier Ace Magashule condemns killing of farmers

Over the past week, the Premier of the Free State, Mr. Ace Magashule has learnt with shock and dismay at the apparently criminally motivated killing of the Free Staters living in the farms. Mr. Toon Swanepoel (72) and his wife Mrs. Rienie Swanepoel (70) were found murdered in their farm in Kwaggakraal in Bainsvlei near Bloemfontein. Another separate incident occurred in Theunissen where Martie Bester (68) was found murdered in his farm. “On behalf of the Free State Provincial Government and the people of the Free State, we send our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. We applaud the Police for their swift action in apprehending the perpetrators of these senseless killings and wish to assure the people of the Free State that these are isolated incidents that are criminally motivated, they must not define our way of living” said Premier Magashule.

The Free State Provincial Government is consoled by the knowledge that the Police have stepped up their visibility in all parts of the Province as part of the Strategy for Crime Prevention. We urge all our people to report suspected acts of criminality to the Police, so that they can act swiftly to prevent any loss of life and property. We also call upon our communities not to buy any stolen goods, as these are proceeds of crime. “When you buy stolen goods you must know that you are also a criminal as you create a market for criminal elements. We must act together as responsible citizens to rid any type of crime out of our peaceful province”, said Premier Magashule.
