The newly appointed members of North West Premier’s Advisory Committees say they are enthusiastically prepared to use their knowledge and experience to help the province achieve its strategic goals that are guided by the National Development Plan.
The members who were inaugurated recently by the Premier Supra Mahumapelo, have also committed to work together with all stakeholders in the province to ensure that the vision of rebranding, repositioning and renewal of the province is realised.
The three advisory committees, namely the Mining Sector Stakeholder Coordinating Committee, the Economic Advisory Committee and the Committee on Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal, were established to give strategic advices on how the Province can amongst others, grow its economy and reach the envisaged 6% mark by 2019, and ensure that the spirit of healing and reconciliation prevails within the society.
Addressing members of the respective advisory committees during their inauguration ceremony that was held here in Mahikeng, Premier Mahumapelo urged them to unconditionally and practically use their knowledge and experience to shape the society.
“There is an unavoidable need for us to embark on radical socio-economic transformation as a guiding principle, and the success of this task is dependent on our collective wisdom and efforts”, said Mahumapelo who pleaded with advisory committees members to drive this programme with vigour.
Prof Dan Kgwadi, the Vice Chancellor of the North West University, who is the Chairperson of the Economic Advisory Committee, said they fully support the prioritisation of Agriculture, Culture and Tourism as key drivers of the provincial economy, adding that the promotion of integrated and sustainable growth and development in the Province will remain central to their goals. Advocate Karabo Kgoroeadira is the Chairperson of the Mining Sector Stakeholder Coordinating Committee, while Kgosi Victor Suping is leading the Committee on Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal.
The Mining Sector Stakeholder Coordinating Committee is expected, among others, to monitor mining sector transformation programmes and advise the Premier on activities related to the implementation of the Mining Sector Transformation Charter and the Social and Labour Plans of various mining companies. Members of this committee include Advocate Karabo Kgoroeadira, Kgalaletso Tlhoale, Loselo Segoe, Col Papi Kubu and Professor Freek Cronje.
The committee on Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal on the other hand is expected to advice on the development of intervention initiatives and coordination of government efforts aimed at healing divisions that have afflicted the Province. Members of this committee include Kgosi Victor Suping, Mrs Grace Masuku, Ms Lindiwe Modise, Mr Thuso Motaung, Rev Piet Tlhabanyane, Mrs Ontlamentse Mochware and Bishop Mike Khunou.
The Economic Advisory Committee will advise the Premier on particularly, implementation of economic growth aspects that relate to Agriculture, Culture and Tourism which have been identified as key sectors of the economy in the Province. Other members of the committee are Dr Vincent Maphai, Mr Zakes Tolo, Mr Kabelo Masike, Mrs Bridget Radebe and Advocate Maritjie Van Aswagen.
