Preliminary report on Ipelegeng Stampede confirm no underage among victims. The Acting MEC for the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Dr. Magome Masike on Monday welcomed the preliminary report into the investigation of the Ipelegeng stampede confirming that there were no under-aged patrons among the 10 victims.
The process of establishing the identities of the victims of the stampede and notifying their next of kins has been concluded. North West Premier, Mme Thandi Modise on Monday led a high-profile provincial government delegation to the families of the victims to express sympathies of a compassionate and caring government.
The delegation included the Acting MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Dr. Magome Masike, MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture, Patrick Chauke and MEC for Social Development, Mosetsanagape Mokomele-Mothibi and followed up on the Sunday visit by MEC’s Chauke and Mokomele-Mothibi.
The seven males who died in the tragic new year celebration incident have been
identified as :

- Bongani Molantwa (21)
- Isaac Mothupi (18)
- The three females who died in stampede were identified as:

Meanwhile, the case against 47 years old James Thembiso Lepholletse, who appeared briefly in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrates Court on Monday was postponed to Friday, 7 January 2011. Lepholletse who is the owner of the tavern at which the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of new year’s day was arrested soon after the incident.
He is facing charges of culpable homicide. The provincial Department of Economic Affairs and Tourism has also established that the trading license for Lepholletse’s business is for a food outlet with limited sale of beer, wine and spirits served with a meal and not a tavern and that there were deviations from the approved structures of the building plans.
