A multi-party committee tasked with the filling of nine vacancies in the Commission for Gender Equality has resolved that the House, in accordance with section 193 (5) of the Constitution, 1996, recommends that the following candidates be appointed:
1. Mr Mfanozelwe Shozi
2. Ms Lulama Nare
3. Ms Sylvia Desiree Stevens-Maziya
4. Ms Janine Hicks
5. Ms Ndileka Eumera Portia Loyilane
6. Mr Wallace Amos Mgoqi
7. Ms Nondumiso Maphazi Ranuga
8. Ms Thoko Mpumlwana
9. Professor Amanda Gouws
“In terms of the rules of Parliament, we will present our report before the House, based on its assessment the House will adopt or reject the report. In the event the report gets adopted, the House will make its recommendations to President Jacob Zuma for the appointment of the Commissioners the House would have agreed upon,” said Ms Ruth Bhengu, Chairperson of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Filling of Vacancies in the Commission for Gender Equality.”
Ms Bhengu said the committee hoped that all the names they put forward would be endorsed by the House, adding that the candidates’ conduct and responses during the interviews were satisfactory and, that the committee was pleased with the skills they possessed.
The report is expected to be tabled before the House on 21 February 2012.
