The Powers and Privileges Committee will on Tuesday, 7 October 2014, commence with the disciplinary proceedings against 20 Members of Parliament from the Economic Freedom Fighters as a result of the incident that happened on 21 August 2014 in the National Assembly.
As per rule 193(2) of the Rules of the National Assembly, 8th edition, the meeting will be a closed session because the Committee will be considering a matter affecting specific Members of Parliament. But Sub-rule (3) (a) makes provision for the Committee to open the proceedings should all parties agree to it.
Therefore, the Committee will communicate with the media and the general public after the initial deliberations to determine whether or not to open the proceedings to the media.
