The Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises finds it regrettable that South African Airways (SAA) Chief Executive Ms Siza Mzimela and two senior managers have decided to resign from their positions.
Ms Mzimela departure follows that of seven Board members, including the Chairperson, Ms Cheryl Carolus. Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises, Mr Peter Maluleka says he has confidence in the current executive of the state-owned company. “The new Board and existing management of the national carrier have the responsibility to ensure that SAA stays in the skies,” he adds.
Mr Maluleka stresses that SAA remains an entity of government and will not be privatised, and adding that the Committee will play an active role in executing its oversight function over the company.
