Portfolio Committee on Agricultural, Forestry and Fisheries sends condolences

The Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has noted with sadness the deaths of three KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) farmers in a light aircraft crash near Nagle Dam last Thursday.

The farmers who died in the accident were Jannie Boshoff, Jannie Kemp and Theuns van Rensburg.

The Committee would like to send its sincere condolences to the bereaved families and Agri South Africa (AgriSA).

According to media reports, the three farmers were the leaders of Kwanalu, an affiliate of Agri South Africa and were coming from a congress which was held in Pietermaritzburg.

“This is a huge loss, especially to the farming community, and above all, South Africa has lost patriots at a time when the agricultural sector needed them the most in its transformation efforts than ever before,” said Committee Chairperson, Mr Lulu Johnson.

Mr Johnson said as mentors to emerging farmers, they have left indelible mark in the transformation of the South African agricultural sector.
