Popular version of NPC’s plan now available in all 11 official South African languages and website content accessible to the visually impaired

Chairperson of the National Planning Commission, Minister Trevor Manuel, today announced that the popular version of the National Development Plan is now available on the NPC’s website in all 11 official South African languages ( English, Sesotho, Zulu, Afrikaans, Sepedi, isiNdebele, Venda, Seswati, Setswana, Xitsonga, and Xhosa).

Minister Manuel said:

“It is critical that the content of the national development plan reaches all South Africans and is available in the languages that they speak. The President has called for a national dialogue about the vision and the plan to take place over the next four to six months. The NPC is determined that South Africans can participate in this dialogue in their mother tongue.

“The diagnostic overview, which we released on 9 June, was also made available in all official languages as well as in Braille. With the popular version available in all official languages , the NPC is now working hard to ensure that the 47-page “Overview and Vision Statement” is also available in all official languages.

“We have also provided a guide on the website as to how those who are visually impaired can obtain access to software which will allow any of the NPC documents to be read out aloud. This software is available at no cost and can be downloaded from the NPC website.

“We are charting a new course and writing a new story for our country. Let us make sure that this story and the journey we are undertaking is one that all of us - irrespective of language, race, gender or class-can participate in.”
