The Eastern Cape Department of Transport, Policy Development Unit recently conducted two policy consultation sessions on 28 and 29 June 2012 at the Department’s head office in King William’s Town.
The purpose of the sessions was to review, update and finalise the draft policies of the department and to ensure that:
- Policies provide guidance with regard to the execution of activities and provide employees in the department with a framework as to the manner in which activities are to be executed.
- Policies promote efficiency within the department and ensure consistency in the performance of activities especially in cases where operations are geographically scattered and structured. If there is one departmental policy at district one then district two has to comply as such.
- Policies ensure compliance with legal and other requirements of the organisation and also serve as a tool for quality improvement, within the department.
In her opening remarks, Policy Development Unit head Ms Lindelwa Mrawusi called upon on all employees to prioritise and make efforts to attend such sessions in order to understand departmental policies and to make use of the policy database on all policy related matters.
“The consulted-on policies will be taken to the districts as they are also part of the department, for their inputs, and lastly, these will be presented to the Departmental Management for their buy-in and adoption” said Mrawusi.
