Police to work closer with agricultural sector to strengthen prevention of farm killings

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa has committed his department to work more closely with farmers unions, farmers and farm workers in order to prevent farm killings that have negatively impacted on agriculture. The commitment was made by MEC Yawa during his department's 2009/10 Policy Statement and Budget Speech delivered in the provincial legislature on Friday.

"We are going to strengthen our partnership with traditional leaders, farmers unions and communities to ensure that there is no hole big enough for stock theft syndicates to hide as we intensify our collaborative efforts to uproot them from our farms, villages, mountains, valleys and our communities," Yawa vowed.

Measures to strengthen policing in rural communities includes among other, activation of Provincial Anti Stock Theft Forum and launch of village committees.
