Police top management visit Western Cape police stations

Yesterday police top management, led by National Commissioner General Bheki Cele, visited thirteen police stations in the Western Cape as part of the South African Police Service (SAPS) commitment to continuously improve service delivery to the community.

General Cele holds his national management forum meeting in a different province each month with the intention of visiting as many police stations in the country as possible during the year. The aim is to address challenges at station level as police stations are the critical point of service delivery.

During the visits the National Commissioner, Deputy National Commissioners, Divisional Commissioners from Head Office and the Provincial Commissioners from all nine provinces inspect police stations identified by the host province’s police chief with the intention of inspecting the station and interacting with the members posted there.

The stations visited by police management yesterday were Robertson, Worcester, Kleinvlei, Delft, Muizenberg, Houtbay, Langebaan, Vredenburg, Conville, Tembalethu, Caledon and Hermanus police stations and the Table Bay Harbour Port of Entry.

The national management forum is meeting today in Cape Town and the managers will exchange information gleaned during the station visits, identify best practices to be rolled out to other stations and discuss challenges and solutions to overcome those challenges.

Since embarking on this national intervention to address challenges faced by Station Commanders and their personnel, 27 police stations and 10 border posts have been inspected by the national management forum in seven provinces.
