Police Stock Theft Unit recovers 83 stolen stock

During an operation that the Glencore Stock Theft Unit embarked on to curb stock theft, a total of 83 stolen stock was recovered in areas such as Dundee, Hattingspruit, Helpmekaar and Glencore.

This operation which began on 13 July 2015 and ended on 26 July 2015, yielded positive results as five suspects were arrested in the Dundee and one  in Wesbank. The following were recovered: in Dannhauser, eight cattle and one calf; in Dundee, four cattle and a pellet gun; in Hattingspruit, two cattle; in Helpmekaar, three cattle; in Wesbank, three goats; and in Glencore, 51 pigs and 11 cattle.

Six suspects were charged with theft of stock and one more with possession of dagga.

The duration of the operation saw a total of 25 suspects arrested for charges under the Animal Identification Act.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the members for their hard work.

“We would like to reiterate to all stock owners to ensure that all their stock is properly marked as per Animal Identification Act, as this will ensure a swift return to the original owner if stock is recovered”, she encouraged.
