Police on safety measures during State of the Nation Address

The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure puts measures in place to ensure a safe and secure delivery of the State of the Nation Address

The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) which is responsible for coordinating all security and law enforcement operations throughout the country has put measures in place to ensure a safe and secure delivery of the State of the Nation Address in Cape Town on Thursday, 13 February 2020.

The Structure which comprises of various  government departments, including the South African Police Service (SAPS), have been activated to deliver on their respective mandates with the ultimate objective of ensuring the safety of all role players, including members of the public.

The NATJOINTS has directed all law enforcement agencies securing this event to execute their duties according to their Constitutional mandate and within relevant prescripts.  At the same time there will be uncompromising security and any criminal conduct will result in appropriate action being taken.

Let’s remind one another that the Republic of South Africa (RSA) is a constitutional state and it is important that all laws and regulations are strictly complied with at all times so that this process can unfold in a dignified and befitting manner.

While the right to protest is respected, any protest action must be conducted in a peaceful, responsible manner, at a designated area and within the confines of the law.

The NATJOINTS guarantees the people of South Africa that the security deployment, will execute their mandate in a coordinated and professional manner. To this end, we request the cooperation of all, including those in attendance.

A Notice to all Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued by the Civil Aviation Authority which restricts the airspace within 1.5 nautical miles (2,7km’s) within the precinct of Parliament between 11:00 and 22:00 on the 13th.

Kindly note that this is strictly a no fly zone for Drones and Aircrafts.

In accordance with standard operating procedures, road closures will be in place to optimise security and those not accredited or authorised to be in attendance should avoid the area around Parliament on Thursday, 13 February 2020.
