Hebron, North West Members of the South African Police Service’s Employee Health and Wellness (EHW), Section Spiritual Services have partnered with the Nanhua Temple to provide wheelchairs and other goods to the Machipa Children’s Home for the Mentally Impaired.
The SAPS Chief Operations Officer, Lieutenant General Bonang Mgwenya who attended today’s events together with Master Hui Xing from the Nanhau Temple presented ten (10) wheelchairs, a large amount of groceries and other much needed items to the Home’s Director Ms Dikeledi.
The children were thrilled with their wheelchairs and couldn’t wait to move around and experience a form of independence they didn’t have before. The SAPS together with the Nanhua Temple will continue to look at ways to support the Home beyond today’s event. Master Hui Xing led in singing happy birthday to Madiba, and was joined wholeheartedly by the community of Hebron and police members present.
Lieutenant General Mgwenya said she was humbled by the experience, in celebration of Mandela Day and as a tribute to Madiba’s 94th birthday. She reiterated the valuable role that each person can play by volunteering their time or expertise to various community or charity structures. “Let us be champions for change in our communities and in our country, let us follow Madiba’s shining example in building our rainbow nation.”
