Police National Commissioner, Bheki Cele, has today showered police in KwaZulu-Natal with commendation for using fire power on three suspects who were armed with deadly weaponry.
Oozing with jubilance, Commissioner Cele said: “The fatal shooting of the men is a vivid signal that the days of criminals that carry out their evil deeds with impunity are over.”
During the early hours of today, 22 January 2010, police received information that four suspects were en route to commit a crime. Upon sighting a suspicious vehicle fitting the description of the suspects an order to stop was relayed by the police. The occupants emerged from the car and started to shoot at the police who upon retaliation killed three and fourth suspect ran into a plantation.
“On this incident, police have with precision fought the thugs toe-to-toe, we silenced them and emerged the victors,” pronounced Cele.
Amongst the three shot, two have been linked positively to the group of men that executed six people and seriously wounded three others in KwaMashu on Christmas Day. The third suspect that was gunned down has been connected to car hijacking and armed incidents that took place in Stanger and Mandini areas respectively.
Police have found three unlicensed firearms. It has not been long that Commissioner Cele vouched that the police would locate all the eleven villains responsible for the massacre and that assurance was in part granted today. Police remain confident that the efforts aimed at nabbing the remaining violent men who are members of this thuggish group will come to fruition.
“As I congratulate the provincial commissioner and the members for this sterling performance I caution the criminals to hand over themselves to the police as they cannot be harboured any longer,” said Cele.
