Police on Operation Fiela/Reclaim 2015

Operation Fiela/Reclaim 2015: sweeping the streets of crime

The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) has noted with appreciation that the criminal justice system’s net has been cast wide and is systematically pulling the criminal element in to account for their actions in courts of law.

The Provincial Joint Operational Centres in all nine provinces are hard at work conducting operations aimed at cracking down on crime and criminals. These actions are taking place under the umbrella of “Operation Fiela/Reclaim 2015” and a number of successes have already been achieved.

To date scores of individuals have been arrested for illicit drugs, illegal firearms, assault common and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, among other offences.  We are particularly pleased that in a 24 hour period, 20 illegal firearms were seized countrywide, ten in Gauteng alone. As the word “fiela” means to sweep clean, we are ridding communities of crime and criminals so that the people of South Africa can be and feel safe. The ultimate objective of the operation is to create a safe and secure environment for all in South Africa.

The teams carrying out Operation Fiela/Reclaim 2015 are focusing on the prevention and combating of various crime types and addressing the safety concerns of the citizens of the country.

The following is being addressed:

  • Illicit drugs
  • Contraband / illegal goods and products
  • Human trafficking and prostitution
  • Hijacked and condemned buildings
  • Undocumented migrants
  • Illegal firearms and ammunition
  • Unlicensed buildings
  • Management of RDP houses
  • Illegal occupation of land.

We thank communities for their cooperation to date and assure them that these actions will persist as long as we continue to identify areas of concern and concentrations of criminal elements within communities.

The NATJOINTS has adopted a multi-disciplinary, integrated approach which includes all law enforcement agencies and departments, which will be enforcing their respective legislative mandates.

Results of the operation will be communicated regularly as this is an open and transparent process and the support of the community is vital.

Anyone with information on crime or criminal activities can report such to Crime Stop – 0860010111.
