Police on Operation Fiela in Eastern Cape

104 ID documents, a money scanner and a swiping machine were recovered during Operation Fiela which was conducted in the Motherwell Cluster, Port Elizabeth.

Operation Fiela continues to make criminals uncomfortable while ensuring that the citizens are and feel safe. The operation started at 10:00 at the KwaZakhele Single Man’s Quarters. The five hour long operation yielded the following successes:

  • An enquiry has been registered and an investigation will be conducted following the recovery of the 104 ID documents, a money scanner and a swiping machine. The outcome of the investigation will determine the way forward on the matter.
  • Two suspects aged 26 and 34 were arrested and charged for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition; two firearms, 9mm pistols with two magazines and 13 rounds of ammunition were recovered. The serial numbers of both firearms were filed off; both firearms were sent for ballistic testing to determine if they have been used in commission of any other crime.
  • One 303 rifle has been recovered.
  • One suspect, aged 30, has been arrested for possession of Dagga to the value of R100, 00 which was recovered.
  • One hand radio, a grass blower and a video machine were recovered.
  • Nine vehicles have been confiscated; the chassis and engine numbers of the vehicles have been tampered with.
  • Stolen goods to the value of R 50 000, 00 and a Corsa bakkie estimated at about R 75 000, 00 were recovered in a house in Kulati Street, New Brighton. 
  • One suspect wanted for house-breaking has also been traced and arrested; cigarettes to the value of R5 000, 00 were also confiscated. Customs also recovered 54 cartoons of counterfeit cigarettes.

The operation will continue until the early hours of tomorrow morning.
