Police Investigative Directorate apologises to Paul O’Sullivan regarding Jackie Selebi investigation

In November 2006, the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD), the predecessor to IPID, issued a statement and posted it on its website, which cast aspersions on the integrity of Mr Paul O’Sullivan about the allegations he had made against then South African Police Service (SAPS) National Commissioner, Jackie Selebi.

Following a thorough review of the matter, no evidence could be found in the ICD/IPID archives to come to the conclusions that were arrived at by the then ICD. They are consequently without any substance whatsoever. In any event, it is not the business of IPID or its predecessor to cast aspersions on people.

The Executive Director, on behalf of the IPID, hereby unequivocally withdraws and retracts that statement and we unreservedly apologishe to Mr O’Sullivan for any harm caused to his integrity and dignity by that statement.
