Police in Mpumalanga are on a manhunt for seven prisoners who escaped from custody at Elukwatini on Saturday, 13 August 2011.
Details of the escapees are as follows:
- Mfundo Shiba, 22 charged with house breaking and theft
- Victor Nkosi, 23 for possession of unlicensed firearm
- Mpontso Nyambi 26, possession of unlicensed firearm
- David Masina 24, for armed robbery
- Kwazi Masilo Buthelezi 23, for armed robbery
- Enock Malaza 25, for armed robbery and
- Bongani Sikhonde 23, for theft of vehicle.
An internal probe is underway to determine the circumstances which led to the getaway. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thulani Ntobela indicated that, members who are found to have been negligent will be dealt with severely.
