Security Officer appears in Bellville Court for child porn
A 34-year old security officer from the Western Cape will be brought before the Bellville Magistrate’s Court tomorrow for possession and distribution of child pornography.
He was arrested yesterday in Parow during a joint operation between the provincial investigation unit of the South African Police Service’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) from Gauteng and the United States’ Homeland Security.
The suspect’s arrest came as a result of an enquiry received from the US Homeland Security via Interpol in January this year. Further investigations by the Gauteng FCS, which is focusing on crimes against the sexual exploitation of children in the rest of South Africa, pointed them to Cape Town, where the suspect was arrested yesterday.
During the arrest, the suspect’s residence was also searched and the following items were seized: one tablet, a video player, two USBs, USB video adapter, three cellphones, hundreds of compact discs, one times hard drive, a micro SD, and one SD.
The closer working relationship the FCS has forged between itself and other law enforcement agencies from elsewhere in the world has been the primary reason it has been so successful in arresting perpetrators of child pornography and sexual exploitation of children from all over the country.
The team is continuously investigating and further arrests cannot be ruled out.
