Police constable arrested for housebreaking and the illegal possession of fire-arms

A 27 year old police constable stationed at the Detectives Unit at the Witpoort Police Station will appear in the Lephalale Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after he was arrested on charges of housebreaking and theft as well as the illegal possession of fire-arms and ammunition.

It is alleged that the Constable, together with a group of five other suspects, broke into a liquor store during the night of Saturday, 28 September by breaking down a door, as well as part of the wall.

They fled after taking liquor to the approximate value of R15 000. The owner discovered the break in early on Sunday morning and reported the matter to the Police who immediately followed up on information and arrested the constable at his house. Some of the stolen liquor was recovered in his possession.

During the search of the premises the police also confiscated two unlicensed fire-arms, both 9mm pistols and ammunition. The serial numbers of the fire-arms were filed off and the origin is being investigated.

The six suspects will appear in the Lephalale Magistrates’ Court on charges of business burglary as well as illegal possession of fire-arms and ammunition.
