The Provincial Commissioner has expressed his concern at the killing of tourists in the province and has promised that police will stop at nothing to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.
Early this month Devlin Barber 27, was shot and fatally wounded by an unknown assailant at a Guest Lodge in White River.
Barber and his wife were accosted by an unknown man in the parking lot as they were about to check in. Information received indicates that the assailant had been hiding in the bush next to the lodge. He pounced on them, took the wife’s hand bag, fatally shot Barber and then vanished into the bush.
In light of this horrid attack, the Provincial Commissioner has made a plea to tourist business owners to ensure that their premises are secured. “Police will patrol the streets but static security measures are imperative. Inroads in tackling crime in the province are bearing fruit, however there is a challenge in the business sector”, said the Provincial Commissioner.
In recent times, White River and Hazyview are the most targeted areas with a string of robberies taking place there recently. Together we can fight the scourge of attacks against tourists.
