Police arrest twelve persons and recover two vehicles in France Police Operation

Yesterday, Wednesday 27 June 2012, members of the SAPS Pietermaritzburg Cluster Office together with members of SAPS Alexandra Road, SAPS Pietermaritzburg dog unit, SAPS Vehicle identification and Safeguarding Section and members of the SAPS Public Order Policing Unit held a Cluster crime operation in the France area. The operation which started at 10h00 resulted in various arrests and recoveries in the area.

During the operation Police arrested three (3) men, aged at 18, 24 and 27 for possession of dagga. An 18-year-old female suspect was also found in possession of nine (9) madrax tablets with a street value of approximately R500.00. Further investigations led Police to the arrest of a 60-year-old adult male after he allegedly stabbed his 40-year-old girlfriend twice on her upper body, at his house in France on Saturday, 16th June 2012. He is facing a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Furthermore members arrested 6 undocumented Malawian Nationals, aged 25 to 34-years of age, in the France area.

A 19-year-old male suspect was also arrested for the theft of a white VW Polo motor vehicle which was stolen from at a residence in Torwood Road in the Hayfields area in Pietermaritzburg earlier in the month. A white Toyota Conquest which was stolen during a business robbery on the 22nd June 2012 at a shop in Mountain Rise and a white Nissan 1-tonner bakkie which was stolen during a hijacking in Pietermaritzburg last night was also recovered.

It is alleged that last night, Mr Nishan Singh (43) was waiting in his bakkie, the Nissan 1-tonner, at the intersection of Chief Albert Luthuli Road and Prince Alfred Road when he noticed two (2) unknown men, wearing balaclavas, getting out of a Toyota Corolla with GP registration number plates and approaching him from both sides of his vehicle. The men then produced firearms and ordered him to get out of his vehicle, to which he complied. They then fled the scene in his vehicle. No arrests.

The arrested suspects will make a court appearance in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court shortly.
