Police arrest elusive serial rapist of 29 women

After seven years of intensive investigations, the mighty hand of the law proved how long it is when it finally caught up with a 40-year-old serial rapist. He has been terrorising the community of Moletjie outside Seshego and the surrounding homesteads since 2005.

The suspect had mastered the art of studying the movements of women who lived alone. He would break into their houses via windows or doors, threaten them with either a knife or a firearm and then rape them.

With the results from forensics confirming the samples from all 29 cases to be of the same suspect, it became evident that there was a serial rapist on the loose. This prompted the formation of a task team dedicated to nailing the man whose modus operandi saw 29 women falling victims of his barbaric acts. Blood stains found in two separate crime scenes linked the suspect with the murders of a young girl and an elderly woman aged 14 and 72 years respectively.

The suspects, a married father of six, will appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, facing 29 charges of rape and two of murder. His chances of being granted bail are minimal as the police will vehemently oppose it.

Meanwhile the Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Province Lt Gen Simon Mpembe will embark on a programme which will see him visiting several areas around the province which has reported the largest number of rapes and all sorts of crimes against children. Lt Gen Mpembe will resume his visits on Monday, the day which signals the start of the Child Protection Week.
