DPME hosts a consultative workshop for inputs into the 25th year review of South African democracy

Today, 04 November 2018, the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) hosted a consultative workshop with various stakeholders to solicit inputs for the 25th Year Review of South Africa’s democracy.

The year 2019 marks the 25th anniversary of the country’s democracy. The DPME is coordinating the review process and generating the 25 Year Review report in consultation with the various sectors of society.

Today’s workshop was attended by among others representatives from business, labour, civil society, academia, and senior officials from the three spheres of government.

Participants at the workshop candidly shared their views on interventions made over the past 25 years to improve people’s lives, challenges, lessons learned and prospects for the future.

Some of the topics that were discussed in commissions are: economy, poverty, inequality, social cohesion, education, skills, anti-corruption, health, governance, infrastructure, housing, land reform, food security, social protection, safety and security.

The consultative workshop is part of the broader consultation process on the 25 years of the country’s democracy.

The Department will continue to engage society to evaluate the 25 years of freedom through various platforms.

Institutions and individuals are encouraged to continue to share their views by sending an email to: 25yearreview@dpme.gov.za.
