The Transnet Phelophepa Healthcare Train recently visited communities living along the Kei Rail Line between Mbashe and King Sabata Dalindyebo with the aim of assisting some of the most deprived communities in the Eastern Cape by providing free Healthcare service at Zamukulungisa Station in Mthatha.
It was through its outreach programme that a variety of experiential and interactive psycho-educational workshops were delivered to children in schools as well as adult community members.
Phelophepha provided various services ranging from a Dental clinic, Eye clinic, Health Education, diabetic screening, pap smear, prostate screening, breast screening and Counseling/Psychology.
The health train arrived in Mthatha on 16 January 2012 and from the 5 to 16 March it will be providing free healthcare service at Mt Ruth Station in Mdantsane. It is expected to visit Buffalo City Metro, Nkonkobe, and Nelson Mandela Metro Municipality railway lines until May 2012.
