Pedestrian dies in Taung road accident

A 23 year old male pedestrian died after he was knocked down by a car near Taung Tusk Hotel on the N18 Vryburg to Taung road on Saturday evening.

The pedestrian was allegedly jaywalking when he was hit by a sedan with Northern Cape registrations at around 18h30. He died on the spot.

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa on Sunday conveyed his condolences to the family of the pedestrian who was killed in the accident.

MEC Yawa confirmed that police are investigating a case of culpable homicide against the driver of the sedan. Yawa also advised pedestrians to wear bright reflective colours whenever they are walking near public roads at night and to only cross when it is safe.

He also appealed to motorists to drive with caution in build up areas to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
