It is with much sadness that news of the passing of MPL Johan Pienaar reached the Legislature today. The Deputy Speaker, Honourable Bulelwa Tunyiswa, would like to express her profound and heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Legislature, to MPL Pienaar’s family. His death is regrettable, and a loss to the Legislature considering the work he diligently undertook as an MPL.
MPL Johan Pienaar is one of the longest serving Members of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature. He joined the Legislature as a Member of the Democratic Alliance in 2003 after serving as a DA Councillor in the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality.
MPL Pienaar served as DA Eastern Cape Shadow MEC for Roads, Transport and Public Works and was a dedicated Member in various Portfolio Committees of the Legislature, which included Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Health, Premier’s Office and Programming Committees. May his soul rest in peace.
