A male passenger in his early 30s died after a bakkie overturned on the R30 Klerksdorp-Ventersdorp road in the North West province on Sunday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 1:00 pm near the Klippan T-Junction. It is suspected that overloading and tyre under-inflation could have caused the left hand tyre to burst and the driver of the bakkie to lose control of the vehicle. The bakkie with four male occupants was transporting mealies bought from nearby Klippan farms destined for sale in Dobsonville.
The 44 year old driver of the Isuzu bakkie and two other passengers who were in the vehicle did not sustain any injuries.
Acting MEC for the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Dr Magome Masike wishes to convey his condolences to the family who lost their loved ones in the accident.
MEC Masike appeals to motorists not to overload their vehicles as overladen vehicles are unsafe particularly in wet weather as drivers tend to lose control of such vehicles resulting in loss of lives.
