The South African Parliamentary Rugby Team will from today 16 August to 25 August host the Argentine Congreso XV Parliamentary Rugby Team in Cape Town.
This historic Argentine Congress team’s weeklong visit coincides with the Parliamentary Sport and Recreation Council (PSRC) sports days where Members of Parliament (MPs), the Parliamentary staff and their families will participate in various sporting activities.
The Argentines arrived in Cape Town today and will play two matches, on 18 August (at the Villagers Rugby Club in Claremont) and on 21 August (at the Makotter rugby field in Stellenbosch), against the South African Parliamentary Rugby Team.
After their midday game on Saturday, the two teams will attend the Springbok vs Argentina game at Newlands Rugby Stadium in the early evening.
The week’s programme includes both teams embarking on social development by visiting townships and hosting rugby development clinics, visiting famous landmarks, going on a wine tasting tour and visiting Parliament.
The theme of the programme is “Parliament practices healthy lifestyle with communities.”
Chairperson of the Parliamentary Sport and Recreation Council, Dr Zukile Luyenge says: “The Argentinean Parliament coming to play against our own Parliament Rugby team is a justification that seeks to demonstrate the international relations the new South Africa has with the global community.”
As part of the festivities to conclude the PSRC programme Members of Parliament, Parliament staff and their families will participate in a 5km and 10km cycle race and walk.
