The Portfolio Committee on Basic Education wishes the Grade 12 learners well for the final National Senior Certificate examinations.
The examinations get underway today and end on 28 November 2012. The results will be released on 3 January 2013. Ms Hope Malgas, Chairperson of the Committee, is confident that the Department of Basic Education will administer the exams in a credible and effective manner. The department has a history of good examination management. Ms Malgas encourages parents, family, friends and educators to give learners all the support they need to successfully complete their exams.
A total of 647 687 learners have enrolled to write the exams. Of these learners, 527 335 have enrolled as full-time learners and 120 352 as part-time learners. A total of 230 194 full-time learners have enrolled for Mathematics compared to 229 371 in 2011. More learners have also enrolled for Mathematical Literacy – 297 074 compared to 281 613 in 2011.
