The Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements hailed the Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB) for establishing an internship programme called One Learner-One Estate Agency.
This after the Committee met the agency as well as the Department of Human Settlements and National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) on Tuesday to receive briefing on their corporate responsibility programmes.
“The One Learner-One Estate Agency programme is critical to ensure radical transformation in the property market but still needs to be made more attractive with regard to its recruitment drive and remuneration incentives,” said Ms Nocawe Mafu, Committee Chairperson.
Ms Mafu said the Committee was pleased with the fact that the programme was aimed at equipping young people from previously disadvantaged groups with the requisite skills while helping them to obtain the necessary real estate qualifications.
“If done and marketed properly, the programme could help ease pressure of unemployment and radically transform the sector” she said. The agency will be expected to provide a quarterly report to the Committee.
