Committee sends condolences on Joseph Shabalala’s passing, calls on South Africans to celebrate his life
The Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture and has called on South Africans not to mourn, but celebrate the life of Joseph Shabalala.
Chairperson Ms Beauty Dlulane said the committee wished the family and relatives strength, and called on them not to be saddened.
“The passing of this gallant South African and distinguished artist is something that the country should use to mobilise against its challenges and foster social cohesion.”
“It is so fortunate that Mr Shabalala’s distinctive voice and his legacy will remain with us for eternity,” Ms Dlulane said.
Mr Shabalala is the founder of the internationally acclaimed iScatamiya group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, that recorded and collaborated with international artists. He passed on at Life Eugene Marais Hospital on Tuesday.
The arts community, South Africans, Africans and the world have all lost.
