Condolences on passing of Secretary to Parliament who served during first years of democracy
Parliament conveys its condolences to the family and friends of Mr Robin Douglas, who served as Secretary to the first democratic Parliament until 1996 and who passed away on Sunday. Mr Douglas was appointed Secretary to Parliament on 1 September 1992.
He played an important role in ensuring that the existing administration provided proper support to Members of the first democratic Parliament, established after South Africa’s first non-racial election on 27 April 1994.
After the election, Mr Douglas remained as Secretary to Parliament until he retired on 1 December 1996. His passing away on 26 January follows the death in August 2013 of his wife, Geraldine.
The funeral service for Mr Douglas is on Friday, 31 January at 15h00 at Volmoed in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.
May his soul rest in peace!
