Parliament sends condolences to actor Roland Mqwebu’s family

Arts and Culture Committee sends condolences to Mqwebu Family

The Portfolio Committee on Arts and Culture sends its heartfelt condolences to the Mqwebu family following the passing away of veteran actor Roland Mqwebu.

The veteran actor played a major role in entrenching the performance of the art through African languages, thereby embedding the legacy of Africans as avid story tellers.

“The Committee is saddened that the country has lost such a multi-talented son of the soil,” said Ms Xoliswa Tom, Chairperson of the Committee.

The Committee is grateful for the role he has played within the arts and culture sphere and is hopeful that those left within the industry will continue to carry on the legacy he has left. The Committee reiterates its call for increased production and broadcast of local content as a tool to build social cohesion and pride in African languages.

“We hope that the family will find solace in the fact that his was a life of virtue and their loss is a national loss,” said Ms Tom.
