Participation of Members of Parliament at COP28: Strengthening commitment to address the Climate Crisis
Today, the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of South Africa continues to participate in critical sessions at the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28), underscoring Parliament's dedication to addressing the urgent global climate crisis.
Members of the parliamentary delegation are engaging in a series of discussions, and this morning, the delegation will take part in the Climate Parliament session at the First Collection Business Bay Hotel in Dubai, focusing on the Global Stocktake, an essential component of climate progress.
In addition, the delegation will attend the World Bank-organised session, titled "How DFIs Can Foster Private Investment in Sustainable Infrastructure," to foster sustainable investment opportunities for a greener future.
A discussion organised by Globe - the Global Legislators Organisation - at the Dubai Expo Centre titled, "Remaking Sustainable Trade for a Climate Safe Future," will feature Mr. Cedric Frolick, the House Chairperson for Committees, Oversight and ICT in the National Assembly, as a speaker.
On Wednesday, the Speaker and some MPs will participate in a parliamentary meeting hosted by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates.
Members of the delegation remain actively engaged in various capacities, including as moderators, facilitators, and speakers throughout the two-week conference.
The South African parliamentary delegation is led by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms. Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and it includes Mr. Cedric Frolick, Mr. Jomo Nyambi, Ms. Pemmy Majodina, Ms. Nqabisa Gantsho, Ms. Tebogo Modise, Mr. David Bryant and Mr. Mlindi Nhanha.
