Parliament on launch of 2nd Annual National Legislative Games

The Parliamentary Sports and Recreation Council (PSRC) today launched the second Annual National Legislative Games, scheduled to take place at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) campus in Soweto, Gauteng from 7 to 9 November 2014.

The PSRC invited all nine Provincial Legislatures to participate in this initiative. These games will enable Parliament to interact and build relationships with all Provincial Legislatures through sport and recreation. The programme represents an opportunity to bring together, civil servants from the three spheres of Government in order to network and share ideas while participating in sport irrespective of race, age, gender and creed. People with disabilities are also encouraged to take part in the games.

“Sports and games are means of mental and physical growth. We learn how to maintain mental balance in the midst of hope and despair. This improves our physical well-being and efficiency,” said Dr Zukile Luyenge, PSRC Chairperson.

It is against this background that PSRC promotes the agenda of wellness and healthy lifestyle in the legislative institutions. A healthy, active, world-class civil service is critical for delivering efficient public services and effective government. It forms the bedrock of our democracy: making government work, turning policy into reality and changing people's lives.

PSRC desires dedicated and highly skilled public servants committed to delivering for the nation. Public servants are real people striving every day to serve the public. The National Legislative Games take place annually, on a rotational basis...each and every province will have a chance to host the games.
