Parliament on lack of intervention and leadership by Department of Communications

Committee dismayed at lack of intervention

The Portfolio Committee on Communications is unimpressed with the lack of intervention and leadership by the department in the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA). This after the MDDA tabled its 2013/14 annual report too late.

Committee Chairperson, Ms Joyce Moloi-Moropa, reiterated that although MDDA has apologised for late submission of its annual report, the Committee is still uncomfortable and worried about the department’s intervention in the matter. “We could deduce last year already from our oversight visit that the department is neglecting this entity and now its status has reached undesired proportion,” said Ms Moloi-Moropa.

She further said that although the Committee appreciated MDDA’s clean audit outcome, it was still concerned about the number of complaints against the entity from community radio stations.
