Parliament holds first ordinary sitting

National Council of Provinces elects its house and committee chairpersons and programming whip

The National Council of Provinces held its first ordinary sitting since it was constituted on 23 May to elect its House Chairpersons, Programming Whip and its 11 Select Committee Chairpersons.
 
The plenary sitting elected Mr Jomo Nyambi as House Chairperson for Committees, Ms Winnie Ngwenya as House Chairperson for Oversight and Institutional Support and Mr Edward Joyisile Njandu as the National Council of Provinces’ Programming Whip.
 
First sittings of the 11 Select Committees took place this morning, before the plenary sitting, and elected the following chairpersons:

  • Appropriations – Ms Dikeledi Mahlangu
  • Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Water and Sanitation and Human Settlements – Mr China Dodovu
  • Education and Technology, Sports, Arts and Culture –  Mr Eleck Nchabelang
  • Finance – Mr Yunus Carrim
  • Health and Social Services – Ms Maurencia Gillon
  • Land Reform, Environment, Mineral Resources and Energy – Ms Tebogo Modise
  • Petitions and Executive Undertakings – Ms Zukiswa Ncitha
  • Public Enterprises and Communications – Ms Mmamora Mamaregane
  • Security and Justice – Ms Shahiidabibi Shaik
  • Trade and Industry, Economic Development, Small Business Development Tourism, Employment and Labour – Mr Mandla Rayi
  • Transport, Public Service and Administration, Public Works and Infrastructure – Mr Kenny Mmolemang
