The Portfolio Committee on International Relations and Cooperation says the frequency with which insurgent attacks are occurring is a cause for great concern, especially that causalities are unsuspecting civilians.
The Chairperson of the Committee, Mr Siphosezwe Masango, condemned the terror attacks on the French people that occurred in Paris over the weekend. “We join President Jacob Zuma and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) in condemning these dastardly and cowardly attacks,” Mr Masango.
He added: “The Committee reiterates SA’s view that all disputes of whatever nature must be resolved through negotiations within the realm of international multilateralism. There is a need to foster good relations among nations and tolerance,” Mr Masango said.
Over the past the weekend, 147 people were confirmed dead following a night of attacks throughout the city of Paris in France. Stadiums, pubs and restaurants were targeted. An insurgent organisation later claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Mr Masango said no nation in the world should experience the weekend’s attacks, and least of all France. “The worrying factor is the frequency with which these attacks occur. Something tangible other than confrontation must be done to quell these attacks,” he said.
