Parliament extends condolences to Mpianzi family

Tourism Committee sends condolences to Mpianzi family and calls on all parties to cooperate with the investigation

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Tourism, Mr Supra Mahumapelo, has expressed his shock at the tragic death of the learner who died while in the care of Parktown Boys High School. The committee sends their condolences to the Mpianzi family and calls on the school and the lodge to full cooperate with the law enforcement authorities so that the matter can be dealt with speedily.

The committee holds the view that local and domestic tourism can make a significant contribution to combating unemployment if it is properly planned, executed, co-ordinated and monitored. Schools tourism has a major role in this regard.

Incidents such as the tragic death of 13-year-old Enoch Mpianzi, a grade 8 learner at Parktown Boys High School, contributes negatively to the growth potential of tourism through schools tourism and this situation has to be addressed.

We urge all relevant authorities to intensify their efforts to unravel the truth around the death. It is our hope that other schools will learn from this incident and be better prepared for school trips that form part of schools and education tourism initiatives.
