Parliament is deeply saddened by the death this morning of Mr Zwelakhe Sisulu, brother of National Assembly Speaker Mr Max Sisulu and third son of anti-apartheid struggle stalwarts Albertina and Walter Sisulu.
He, himself, played his role as an activist and leader and was detained on a number of occasions during the 1970s and 1980s for speaking out against human rights abuses of the apartheid era.
Before our democracy in 1994, he was involved in the media as a journalist and editor on newspapers such as the Rand Daily Mail, the Sowetan and the New Nation.
From 1994 to 1997 he served as group CEO for the South African Broadcasting Corporation. He subsequently became involved in various business ventures in the media, telecommunications, agri-business and manufacturing.
We extend our condolences to the Sisulu family.
