Parliament congratulates Ladysmith Black Mambazo for winning Grammy Award

Arts and Culture committee hails Ladysmith Black Mambazo

The Portfolio Committee on Arts and Culture congratulates the South African traditional music group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, for winning a Grammy Award this past Sunday.

This Grammy, their fourth to date, asserts Ladysmith Black Mambazo as one of the greatest music groups to come out of this country.

“We are all proud of Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s achievements over the years. They have cemented their place in the history books of music, both locally and internationally. We are further pleased that they have decided to stick to their roots and are showcasing to the world the traditional South African music and have avoided the temptation to change this winning formula. South African languages and culture will continue to live through their music,” said Ms Thandile Sunduza, Chairperson of the Committee.

The Committee hopes that their success will continue to inspire more South Africans to aim high and be confident about and proud of their artistic talents. “South Africa is blessed with artists that have the potential to rise above the confines of country borders and impact the world and such artistic brilliance as exemplified by Mambazo must be harnessed and shared with the world,” Ms Sunduza said.

The Committee further encourages all South Africans to support local musicians and to refrain from buying counterfeit CDs. “It is through our support that many will thrive and reach the heights that Ladysmith Black Mambazo has reached,” said Ms Sunduza.
