Parliament congratulate South Africa’s Paralympics team for participating in Japan games

The Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts and Culture wishes to congratulate South Africa’s Paralympics team which participated in this year’s Paralympic Games in Japan.

The Chairperson of the committee, Ms Beauty Dlulane, said the double gold for Mahlangu is worth noting. “We are excited that these athletes overcame not only disability, but all adversity including being disadvantaged in their daily lives. The performance that the South African team put on as a team and as individual athletes is worth marvelling on,” added Ms Dlulane.

She said the seven medals the team was able to achieve should be celebrated and it should be rewarded for. Ms Dlulane continued that the committee will be looking with a keen eye on how Paralympians are supported so that they are combat ready at the next competition.

Team South Africa came fifth among African countries with 4 golds, a silver and 2 bronze medals. Worth noting were the exploits of Louzanne Cotzee, Ntando Mahlangu, Piet Du Preez, Sheryl James and Anrune Weyers. “We are proud of our champions, the department and sport organisations should make good to our athletes.”
